CENELEC stands for European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization.
It is an association that brings together the National Electrotechnical Committees of 34 European countries. CENELEC works together with CEN, the European Committee for Standardization, to develop European Standards and other deliverables in a large number of sectors to help build the European internal market in goods and services.
A CENELEC Standardization Expert is a person who participates in the development of standards and other deliverables in the field of electrotechnology. He or she can be a representative of a stakeholder group, such as industry, consumers, public administrations, academia, or societal organizations. He or she can also be a technical expert appointed by a CENELEC member or a project leader responsible for managing the work of a technical committee or working group.
The roles and responsibilities of a CENELEC Standardization Expert vary depending on the level and type of involvement in the standardization process. However, some common tasks are:
• To contribute to the drafting, reviewing, commenting, and voting on standards and other deliverables
• To ensure that the technical content, quality, and coherence of the documents are in line with the relevant rules, guidelines, and best practices
• To communicate and coordinate with other experts, stakeholders, and CENELEC staff
• To promote and disseminate the standards and other deliverables to the relevant audiences
• To monitor and respond to the needs and expectations of the market and society regarding electrotechnical standardization
