what’s the different optical transmission protection switching modes?
There are 2 types of switching :
1) Revertive Mode: if the main link got a fault, the standby link will protect automatically, then if the main link becomes available, the controller will automatically switch back to main again after WTR (Wait to Restore) time. The WTR is a crucial timer for maintaining system stability and preventing frequent switching. WTR can be from 5 to 12 minutes.
2) Non-Revertive Mode: in this mode, if the main link got a fault, the standby link will protect automatically, but if the main link becomes available, the controller will keep working on the standby link. In the same way, if the standby link becomes faulty then the controller will switch to the main link. There is no WTR timer to be set in this mode
Through the Network Management System (NMS) you can configure the protection switching mode to be either revertive or non-revertive. If you set to revertive you have to also set the WTR timer and if you didn’t set the WTR timer, it’s by default set to 600 seconds.
