Here are some of the gNB & ng-eNB host group functionalities:
1 – Radio admission control & system information broadcast :
This consists of procedures for access control i.e. cell barring procedures & radio access configuration i.e. broadcasting information, random access configuration.
2 – Radio connection control : This consists of connection setup & release as well as controlling the UE connection state of idle, connected & inactive state.
3 – Radio bearer control : it consists of configurations for security, establishment & maintenance of the radio bearer RB both on the uplink & downlink with different quality of service(QoS).
4 – Dynamic resource allocation & scheduling : Consist of Scheduling RF resources according to their availability on the uplink & downlink for multiple UEs according to the QoS profiles of a radio bearer.
5 – Measurement configuration : it consists of configurations of the UE for radio resource management procedure such as cell selection & re-selection & for requesting measurement reports to improve scheduling.
6 – Inter-cell radio resource management : This allows the UE to detect neighbor cells, query about the best serving cell & support network during handover decisions by providing measurement feedback.
7 – Connection mobility : This supports idle mode & connected mode intra cell handover situations.
