VRRP

VRRPVirtual Router Redundancy Protocol

(VRRP) is an open standard protocol, which is used to provide redundancy in a network. In a VRRP topology, the routers work in group to form a logical router which will be the default gateway (Virtual IP Address, VIP) of all the hosts on the LAN. The routers form a “Master/Backup” relationship, where the master owns the VIP and is responsible for forwarding traffic from the LAN, and in case the master fails then the backup router will become master and take up the responsibility of forwarding traffic from the LAN.
