RIPE

RIPE is an acronym that stands for Réseaux IP Européens, which means European IP Networks in French.

RIPE is a forum open to everyone interested in the operation of the Internet. It supports the technical and administrative coordination of the Internet infrastructure in Europe, the Middle East and parts of Central Asia. RIPE also has a close relationship with the RIPE NCC, which is the regional Internet registry (RIR) for the same region. The RIPE NCC allocates and registers Internet number resources (such as IP addresses and autonomous system numbers) to its members, who are mainly Internet service providers, telecommunication organizations, and large corporations.

RIPE and the RIPE NCC are relevant for the Internet protocol because they help ensure the stability, security, and efficiency of the Internet’s routing system. By providing a platform for discussion, collaboration, and policy development, RIPE facilitates the technical development of the Internet and its governance. By managing the distribution and registration of Internet number resources, the RIPE NCC enables the identification and reachability of networks and devices on the Internet.
