eSIM – embedded Subscriber Identity Module
eSIM also known as “Embedded SIM” is a digital SIM that allows you to activate a cellular plan from your carrier without having to use the conventional SIM card. The difference between an eSIM and a physical SIM is that, unlike a traditional SIM card which is fitted in a SIM slot, the eSIM is integrated onto the phone’s motherboard which eliminates the need to switch between physical SIMs whenever you change service providers. Purchasing and downloading eSIM profiles requires internet access but switching between previously downloaded profiles does not require any internet access.
