DNS Zone

A DNS Zone is an area of authority within the DNS name space.

Every zone in the DNS has a server that is designated as the primary or master authority for that zone. In addition, zones can have other DNS servers that are designated as secondary or slave authorities for the zone. These are other servers that are considered as authoritative sources for the zone, but they obtain their authoritative data from the master server for that zone.
