CAMARA stands for Cloud-native API for Mobile network ARchitecture and Applications.
(CAMARA ) is an open source project within the Linux Foundation that aims to define, develop and test the APIs that enable seamless access to telco network capabilities. CAMARA works in close collaboration with the GSMA Operator Platform Group to align API requirements and publish API definitions and implementations. CAMARA APIs are based on service-based architecture (SBA), which is a modular and flexible way of designing and implementing the 5G core network.
Some of the benefits of CAMARA are:
- It simplifies telco complexity by making APIs easy to consume for customers with no telco expertise (user-friendly APIs).
- It satisfies data privacy and regulatory requirements by abstracting network APIs to service APIs.
- It facilitates application to network integration by exposing network capabilities and resources such as quality of service, network slicing, location, billing, etc..
- It supports network automation and orchestration by allowing network functions to register themselves and discover other network functions through a centralized network repository function (NRF).
- It improves network performance and scalability by allowing network functions to be deployed on cloud platforms or distributed edge nodes using microservice architectures.
