EVPN – Ethernet VPN
(Ethernet VPN) – is a standards-based technology that provides virtual multipoint bridged connectivity between different Layer 2 domains over an IP or IP/MPLS backbone network. EVPN is an extension to Multiprotocol Border Gateway Protocol (MP-BGP) that allows the network to carry endpoint reachability information such as Layer 2 MAC addresses and Layer 3 IP addresses. This control plane technology uses MP-BGP for MAC and IP address endpoint distribution, where MAC addresses are treated as routes.
